Description of CE Program/Activity
Orientation and Mobility (O&M) is one of the nine areas the Expanded Core Curriculum (ECC), a specific curriculum unique and critical to the success of students who are blind and visually impaired. The ECC provides a framework to target skills that are not always integrated within the general education curriculum. Orientation and mobility instruction provides children and students with visual impairments a set of foundational skills which allow them to access and participate in the general education curriculum. This course provides foundational information about the O&M in the early years of life (ages birth-5), assessment for children of this age, and strategies for facilitating activities to be used in the home, school, and community environments. Strategies for teaming and collaboration will be discussed as well. Time will be spent learning together as well as constructing specific activities for your students, classroom, and/ or learning environment. The Teachers Learning and Collaborating model (TLC) will be used for coaching and support. Two face to face sessions will take place, as well as classes utilizing distance technology and videotaping. This class is being offered for both license renewal and graduate credit.
