The Expanded Core Curriculum (ECC) is a specific curriculum focused on nine areas of instruction critical to the success of students who are blind and visually impaired. It provides a framework to target skills that are not always integrated within the general education curriculum. This course provides foundational information about the ECC, assessment that drives the ECC and strategies for facilitating activities to be used in the home, school, and community environments. Strategies for teaming and collaboration will be discussed as well. Time will be spent learning together as well as constructing specific activities for your students, classroom, and/ or learning environment. Teachers Learning and Collaborating model (TLC) will be used for coaching and support. There are two face to face sessions, as well as classes utilizing distance technology and videotaping. This class is being offered for both license renewal and graduate credit. Iowa Core standards describe the knowledge students should know and be able to perform from K through 12th grade in math, science, English language arts and social studies. Iowa Core also sets learning goals for 21st Century skills in areas such as financial and technological literacy. This course will focus on the ECC designed for students who are blind or visually impaired. Implementing the Core Curriculum with integrity increases the likelihood that all students become life-long learners, productive adults, and engaged citizens. This course provides instruction on how to use the ECC and infuse the 21st Century Skills of the Iowa Core into instruction for students who are blind and visually impaired.:Outcome/objective #1: Gain knowledge of observation and assessment in the ECC area of career education and transitionOutcome/objective #2: Able to assess student need in specific ECC areas, design and implement teaching strategies for development of skills in identified areas. |
