CVRT to add definition of Direct Service and Indirect to CCE Form

The ACVREP Board of Directors, based on the recommendation of the CVRT Subject Matter Expert Committee is posting for public comment the proposed change to the Clinical Competency Evaluation form that will define what is considered Direct Service that must be 260 hours of the 350 hour internship and what will be considered indirect that may be included in the remaining 90 hours.

The proposed changes are as follows:

Instructional hours include time spent in the following endeavors with the learner and/or family members & community connected to the learner:

  • Assessment of learners in any of the domain areas identified in the VRT Scope of Practice
  • Direct teaching or co-teaching of learners in any of the domain areas identified in the VRT Scope of Practice
  • Active participation in Individualized Education Plan (IEP), Individual Plan of Employment (IPE) and Independent Living Plan (ILP), assessment, or other formal meetings where the instructor is actively engaged in presenting information that will affect instruction provided to the learner
  • Providing direct consultation and training to parents, caregivers, teachers, and other related professionals and community member
  • Remote instruction for learner and/or parents, caregivers, teachers, and other related professionals and community members.
    • Instruction to the related community should not exceed 10 percent of instructional time.

Non-Instructional hours include, but are not limited to, time spent in the following endeavors:

  • Observation of CVRTs
  • Report writing
  • Lesson/material preparation
  • General agency staff meetings
  • Supervision meetings
  • Content/curriculum development for agencies
  • The following categories should not exceed 10 percent of the non-instructional hours.
    • Travel to and attendance at conferences
    • Travel to and from contact with a learner
    • Observation of other vision professionals
