In Memory of Jay H. Stiteley, Past Chair of ACVREP

In 2014 the ACVREP Board of Directors, under the leadership of then Chair, Jay H. Stiteley, established an exam scholarship fund to which $2,000 is added each year through 2019.

In memory of Jay Stiteley, the Board of Directors has voted to name the scholarship fund The Jay H. Stiteley Memorial Scholarship Fund and to make the exam scholarship fund permanent. It will continue to be funded in January each year with $2,000 added annually. Scholarships are awarded to eligible candidates on a first come, first served basis.

Jay served on the ACVREP board for six years from 2009-2014 and served as the founding Chair of the ACVREP CATIS Subject Matter Expert Committee from January 2015 until his death.

Current ACVREP Board Chair, Mickey Damelio, stated "Jay was a lion of a man and professional in our field. If you had the privilege to work with him, you quickly learned to respect his wisdom, gentle leadership style, and genuine nature. He was passionate about people with vision loss achieving their full potential, accessing independence and employment, and having the appropriate education and tools to do so. Jay was instrumental in originally putting this scholarship in place. It is in the spirit of all that he stood for that we have it, and naming it for him could not be more appropriate. ACVREP mourns his passing and will miss him tremendously, I'll miss him as a mentor and dear friend."
