Education requirements: Bachelor's degree in early childhood education, elementary education, or special education from an accredited institution. Master's Degree strongly preferred.
Experience requirements: Two (2) years’ related experience in teaching individuals who are blind/visually impaired preferred; however, recent graduates will be considered.
Required knowledge and skills: Knowledge of and experience in performing assessments appropriate for school-age children with visual impairments and/or multiple disabilities, knowledge of expanded core curriculum, demonstrated experience in the use of braille, skilled in conducting Functional Vision Assessments and Literacy Media Assessments, strong computer skills, knowledgeable about child development , ability to work cooperatively with family and IEP team to enhance the skill development of the child. Must have extensive knowledge and skills in using assistive technology with visually impaired individuals.
Licensures and certifications: Certified Teacher for the Visually Impaired required. Dual certification as TVI and COMS (from Academy for Certification of Vision Rehabilitation and Education Professionals) preferred. Must have valid driver’s license.
