1. Lead New Vision Independent Living Skills classes to reinforce adaptive skills for success through comradery and peer support. Conduct pre and post assessments to measure progress.
2. Conduct assistive technology assessments and training on Microsoft and Apple platforms. Work with each client to identify meaningful goals. Collect pre and post data to measure progress.
3. Support Lighthouse employees by ensuring they have the adaptive skills and AT tools for success in their current job and the abilities needed for career advancement. Collaborate with the Lighthouse team to develop an innovative Upward Mobility Program that uses technology to create pathways to success.
4. Conduct assessments and training to enhance employability for vocational rehabilitation consumers. Work with each to identify meaningful goals. Collect pre and post data to measure progress.
5. Conduct braille assessments and training, as needed. Work with each client to identify meaningful goals. Collect pre and post data to measure progress.
6. Consult with senior Leadership to ensure tech access when developing programs that create new opportunities for people with vision loss.
7. Facilitate peer groups to share information and foster opportunities for socialization.
8. Stay current with trends in the field of vision rehabilitation and new developments in assistive technology.
9. Maintain clean and clutter-free spaces for clients and guests.
10. Advocate for access and opportunities for people with vision loss by participating in education and outreach events.
11. Perform other duties as assigned by the Director of Vision Rehabilitation Services.
JOB QUALIFICATIONS & REQUIREMENTS:
1. Education: Degree and dual certification as a Vision Rehabilitation Therapist and Assistive Technology Instruction Specialist. Progress toward certification may be considered.
2. Special Knowledge/Skills: Expert knowledge of adaptive strategies for people with varying degrees of vision loss; Proficiency to teach braille; Excellent computer skills to include expert knowledge of all versions of Microsoft Windows and Office products; Working knowledge of both Apple and Android products and accessibility features; Current working knowledge of Assistive hardware, software, and assistive devices for the blind; Effective teaching skills with ability to assess and adjust training to optimize progress; Strong troubleshooting skills; Excellent oral and written communication skills; Ability to develop and perform professional presentations.
3. Experience: Minimum of 350 hours experience instructing people with vision loss on the use of adaptive strategies to enhance ADL/IADL performance. Minimum of 350 hours experience instructing people with vision loss on the use of computer and mobile devices. Experience with proficiency to complete assessments and draft professional reports.
4. Supervisory Responsibilities: Occasional professional or employee interns.
5. Physical: Must be energetic and able to function in a dynamic office setting. Must be able to tolerate travel in all conditions for extended periods. Must be able to tolerate sitting at a computer for extended periods. Able to travel throughout the facility to safely and effectively manage all work responsibilities, breaks, and emergency evacuations, with or without reasonable accommodation. Able to manage all self-care needs and activities of daily living as required to support successful employment, with or without reasonable accommodation.
6. 7. Working Conditions: Classroom, client home/work, commercial, and industrial environments. Some travel required. Mileage reimbursement provided to service providers who travel to/from client appointments. Transportation provided by Lighthouse to/from client appointments for service providers who are unable to drive due to vision impairment.
8. Work Schedule: Monday through Friday, 40 hours per week. Occasional weekend community outreach activities and training sessions.
9. Background Check and Drug Testing required: Employment is contingent based upon satisfactory results.
