Minimum Qualifications:

Master’s degree in human service and/or education fields, prefer degree in vocational rehabilitation, rehabilitation teaching, or education of the blind. Closely related degrees combined with experience in providing services to the blind will be considered. 

Must hold any of the following certifications or be eligible to sit for certification as a Certified Rehabilitation Counselor credential or as a minimum standard, educational standards established by the Commission on Rehabilitation Counselor Certification (CRCC); or Certified Vision Rehabilitation Therapist by Academy for Certification of Vision Rehabilitation and Education Professionals; or certified Orientation and Mobility Specialist by Academy for Certification of Vision Rehabilitation and Education Professionals (COMS) or National Blindness Professional Certification Board (NOMC); or possess a Virginia collegiate professional license with an endorsement of special education vision impairments preK-12 Certification as Rehabilitation Counselor.

Demonstrated knowledge of specialized services for people who are blind, deafblind, or vision impaired and of sound management practices and principles.

Demonstrated skill and ability to mentor, lead, and supervise a diverse group of employees with professional preparation in vocational rehabilitation, rehabilitation teaching, orientation and mobility, and education services. Demonstrated ability to interpret and implement established policies, analyze and solve complex problems, and make timely and defensible decisions.

Special Requirements:

Master’s level transcripts or copy of current certification, if applicable, must accompany the application. Please note that the transcripts must display the date that the degree was awarded
