Description

The Education and Workforce Development Cabinet’s mission is to educate, prepare and train Kentucky's current and future workforces. The Office of Vocational Rehabilitation empowers individuals with disabilities to maximize employment, achieve economic self-sufficiency and independence, and to contribute back to society. We also help businesses and employers recruit, retain and accommodate employees with disabilities.

We are seeking a Voc Rehab Program Instructor I to provide blind/visually impaired consumers at the Charles W. McDowell Center with skills in home and financial management through assessments, instruction and demonstration.

Key Responsibilities:

  • At entry level, review referral documentation in order to plan training for students. Utilize curriculum for specialized training in home and financial management. Teaches classes to provide skills to students to gain independent living skills.
  • Provide supervision and instruction to students in the independent living apartment. Ensures curriculum is individualized for each student's needs.
  • Documents work with consumers and the program through monthly reports and maintains program files. Attends meetings and works with an inter-disciplinary team to provide the services consumers need to live independently and gain employment.
  • Participates in staff meetings and committees to assist with development of programming for the Center.
  • Serve as a resource for others within the agency as well as community partners involved in services for individuals who are blind, visually impaired and/or with other disabilities.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Minimum Requirements

EDUCATION: Graduate of a college or university with a bachelor's degree in rehabilitation, rehabilitation teaching or therapy, therapeutic recreation, guidance and/or counseling, psychology, sociology, orientation and mobility, social work, special education, education, education with emphasis in vocational counseling.

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS (AGE, LICENSURE, REGULATION, ETC.): CVRT preferred but not required.

Working Conditions

Work is performed primarily in an office setting. Occasional travel will be required to coordinate services between customers and the agency.

Probationary Period

This job has an initial and promotional probationary period of 6 months, except as provided in KRS 18A.111.
