Program Director Responsibilities:

  • Administer all aspects of the program, ensuring high quality family-centered services to support the child's optimal development and access to the world.
  • Program Management: includes supervision of program staff; guidance to Regional Coordinators; establishment and implementation of program policy guidelines and procedures; program evaluation and Continuous Quality Improvement; state level interagency collaboration; partnership with administration to develop and maintain contracts for service. 
  • Work with Director of Early Intervention Services to develop and implement annual program budget. 
  • Staff Development: Responsible for ongoing supervision, support, mentoring and professional development of program staff including recruitment, training, and supervision; regular and direct observation of individual VIS and EIS working in the community; facilitation of all Performance Appraisals; assessment of staff development needs; identification, acquisition and inventory of professional resources and materials.
  • Program Development: Responsible for identification and monitoring of patterns of best practice and adjustment of service delivery to reflect current best practice. This includes planning and implementing strategies that incorporate most effective practice into the agency service model; monitoring and reporting on trends in the fields of medicine and education relative to early intervention and visual impairment; dissemination of BBF expertise; monitoring of state and federal policy and legislation.
  • Develop calendar and chair BBF Regional Coordinator meetings and BBF Staff Meetings.
  • Develop calendar, coordinate, and participate in the Professional Advisory Committee meetings.
  • Provide home visits to families, supporting parent/child interactions through developmentally appropriate play activities; working with families to develop curriculum appropriate for a child with vision impairment and/or multiple disabilities; providing family with information about visual diagnosis and effects of vision loss on early childhood development; conducting developmental and functional vision assessments using observation, provide information on different developmental delays, and medical diagnoses, parent interview and formal assessment strategies; providing social/emotional and crisis support to families as appropriate; and helping parents advocate effectively for themselves and their child.
  • Related family services: includes planning and implementing family events, providing information and parent to parent support; referring families to community resources.
  • Outreach services: actively collaborating with community-based providers of related services to overcome family barriers, such as language, culture and income; consulting with professional community on behalf of children and families (attend medical visits; IFSP, IEP sessions; program visits, etc.); providing workshops and trainings for parents and professionals; serving as public relations representative of the agency, as necessary.
  • Case Management Responsibilities: includes completing and maintaining client case files (Face Sheet, Home Visit Log Notes, Developmental Profile, Correspondence, Reports of Medical Visits, IFSPs, IEPs, etc.); following agency guidelines for participation in Babies Count, the National Registry of Early Childhood Vision Impairment Project; providing monthly accounting of client contract hours.

Required Experience, Skills, and Education

  • Master’s Degree in Special Education or related field from an accredited college or university required.
  • Credentialed Orientation and Mobility Specialist or Teacher of the Visually Impaired/Vision Rehabilitation Specialist. Will accept enrollment in a university program with a planned date of completion.
  • Extensive experience in visual impairment and early childhood development.
  • At least two (2) years’ experience working directly with children who are visually impaired (birth to five years of age) and their families.
  • A minimum of four (4) years of demonstrated related leadership responsibility.
  • A minimum of two (2) years managing department and supervising staff.
  • Bilingual (Spanish) required.
