Position: Teacher of the Blind & Visually Impaired

Location(s): Washington, DC

Reports to: Associate Director of Youth & Education Services

 

Are you a certified TVI who wants to make a difference?  Come join the Columbia Lighthouse for the Blind (CLB), a mission driven community resource for the blind and visually impaired community of greater Washington, DC!  CLB is seeking a Teacher of the Blind & Visually Impaired (TVI) for school aged students.  This job opportunity is itinerant, occasionally reporting to the DC office, and will require reliable transportation.  This can be a full time, part time, or consulting position with a continuing caseload.  CLB offers a comprehensive benefits package, including 16 paid holidays each year.

 

As the TVI, you will teach the expanded core curriculum from schools, as well as braille, mobility, independence skills to school aged children in the DC Metro region.  In addition, the TVI will develop, review, and evaluate individualized educational plans (IEP).  This position incorporates strategies developed for integrating visually impaired students into school and society.

 

Qualified applicants will have a bachelor’s degree in Special Education or related field and must meet qualifications for State approved licensure with an endorsement of teaching students with visual impairment in the areas/territories of DC, MD, and VA.  This position requires knowledge of Assistive Technology, strong Braille skills, and excellent report writing and computer skills.  CLB is seeking individuals who are organized, have strong time-management skills, and can create engaging student lessons.  COMS or CVRT certification is a plus.
