Organization: Columbia Lighthouse for the Blind (CLB)
Position: Orientation & Mobility Specialist
Location(s): Washington, DC and Silver Spring, MD
Reports to: Associate Director, Rehabilitation Services
Are you an experienced rehabilitation professional who wants to make a difference? Come join the Columbia Lighthouse for the Blind (CLB), a mission driven community resource for the blind and visually impaired community of greater Washington, DC! CLB is seeking an Orientation & Mobility Specialist to provide individualized training to its adult clients in the DMV area who are blind or visually impaired. This job opportunity is itinerant, occasionally reporting to the DC or Silver Spring office, and will require reliable transportation. CLB offers a comprehensive benefits package, including 16 paid holidays each year.
As the Orientation & Mobility Specialist, you will teach adult clients to travel safely and independently. Since 1900, CLB's mission has been promoting independence for people who are blind or visually impaired. They provide a comprehensive range of programs and services for the nearly 180,000 people in Maryland, DC, and Virginia who are blind or visually impaired.
Qualified applicants will have a bachelor’s degree in Orientation & Mobility or completion of certificate program through an accredited university which meets the ACVREP 13 core domain areas such as COMS Certification or NOMC (National Orientation and Mobility Certification) certification plus a minimum of one year of experience in the field of blindness. This position requires a familiarity with the blindness community and professional resources, as well as standard concepts, practices, and procedures within the vision rehabilitation field. CLB seeks individuals with experience working with databases and excellent report writing and computer skills. Dual certification O&M and VRT or O&M and TVI preferred.
