Description

The Education and Workforce Development Cabinet’s mission is to educate, prepare and train Kentucky's current and future workforces. Our goal is to create and make continuous improvements to an education and workforce system that prepares Kentuckians for the 21st century workforce, while helping businesses find the skilled workers they need to compete and create jobs in the Commonwealth.

The Office of Vocational Rehabilitation empowers individuals with disabilities to maximize employment, achieve economic self-sufficiency and independence, and to contribute back to society. We also help businesses and employers recruit, retain and accommodate employees with disabilities.

We are seeking a part time Voc Rehab Program Instructor I to teach a specific skilled trade or an academic subject in a classroom setting.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Instruct blind/visually impaired students on various blindness skills including Braille, Home Management, Assistive Technology and other similar areas that the student will need to reach employment and live independently.
  • Provide virtual engagement opportunities for blind/visually impaired community members. Provide instruction virtually and/or in-person as a substitute when lead instructors take leave to ensure student's schedules are not disrupted. Instruct in areas virtually if lead instructor's schedules become full and students remain on the wait list.
  • Document work with students and the program through monthly reports and maintains program files. Works with an inter-disciplinary team to provide the services students need to live independently and gain employment.
  • Participate in staff meetings as well as inter-disciplinary meetings to make recommendations regarding students' training in order to assist in future rehabilitation planning.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Minimum Requirements

EDUCATION: Graduate of a college or university with a bachelor's degree in rehabilitation, rehabilitation teaching or therapy, therapeutic recreation, guidance and/or counseling, psychology, sociology, orientation and mobility, social work, special education, education, education with emphasis in vocational counseling OR hold a valid instructor license issued by the Kentucky Board of Hairdressers and Cosmetology.

Working Conditions

Work is performed primarily in an office setting. Occasional travel will be required to coordinate services between customers and the agency.

Probationary Period

This job has an initial and promotional probationary period of 6 months, except as provided in KRS 18A.111.
