About Us

Blind Low Vision NZ is the leading national provider of blind and low vision services in New Zealand, with a rich history stretching back to 1890. Now more than ever, the opportunities are here to make a real difference to people with sight loss, and you’ll help us achieve our vison of ‘life without limits’. As we continue to connect people who are blind or have low vision to expert staff and their peers, we also continue to be one of New Zealand's most trusted and iconic not for profit organisations.

About the Role

As an Orientation & Mobility Specialist you will work directly with our clients who are blind or visually impaired, assisting them with becoming more independent. You’ll be dealing with clients of all ages and life stages, conducting assessments of their ability to travel safely and confidently within their community and the areas they wish to access, as well as recommending and training on suitable mobility aids.

Skills & Experience

As well as a relevant qualification, you will be familiar working with people who are blind or visually impaired, demonstrating your ability to work safely with clients of all ages, some of which have complex needs. We are looking for:

  • Experience in the delivery of Orientation and Mobility (O&M) and Adaptive Daily Living programme (ADL)
  • A recognised qualification in rehabilitation for people who are blind or have low vision with an emphasis on O&M and ADL
  • Knowledge and skills in working with children, adults and elderly
  • Able to work effectively with people of all ages, from a variety of backgrounds and cultures
  • You’ll be warm, enthusiastic and approachable, someone who can build meaningful relationships with our clients
  • Strong planning skills including sound time management skills

This is a great opportunity to join an organisation that is truly passionate about helping their clients. We are open to supporting overseas candidates with the right qualifications and experience to gain the appropriate work visa. New Zealand offers a great lifestyle, and when you join us you can look forward to a rewarding career, great staff benefits, and working amongst a fantastic team! We have opportunities across the county, so enquire today!
