Description of Company: Since 1891, St. Joseph’s School for the Blind has been providing specialized services to individuals with visual impairments across New Jersey. Founded by the Sisters of St. Joseph of Peace, the School is comprised of several programs, such as: Early Intervention, In-district Support Services, School for the Blind, and Adult Services. As a non-sectarian organization, they are proud to serve individuals of all races, creeds and national origins.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Academy for Certification of Vision Rehabilitation & Education Professionals - ACVREP Certification (required)
  • New Jersey School Orientation & Mobility Specialist Certification (required)
  • Bachelor’s degree or higher (required)
  • Experience working with students with disabilities (preferred)

Position Details:

  • Schedule - Monday to Friday - 8:00 AM - 3:00 PM
  • Salary Range - $80,000 - $100,000 (Salary is determined based on experience.)

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Strives to implement by instruction and action, the School’s philosophy of education and instructional goals and objectives.
  • Implement all School policies and procedures.
  • Ensure the safety of all students.
  • Participates in annual orientation and in-service programs.
  • Evaluates the students in the areas of Orientation & Mobility and makes referrals for further evaluations, when needed.
  • Develops plans, and implements Individual Education Plan (IEP) for each student in conjunction with the Principal.
  • Maintain records of evaluations and student’s progress.
  • Provides instruction to staff and parents to encourage consistency across environments.
  • Provides in-service training to staff from information gained through reading, lectures, courses, etc.
  • Participates in student staffing’s, IEP meetings and parent meetings.
  • Assumes responsibility for anticipating equipment and supplies needed to implement the program and assumes equal responsibility for keeping equipment and supplies in working condition.
  • Performs such other student related or programmatic tasks and assumes such other responsibilities as assigned by Principal.
  • Sets an example for the students and the community as a representative of St. Joseph’s.
  • Implements all school policies and procedures.
