· Master’s degree or higher in education or a field of study related to special education
· Minimum of 3 years of satisfactory teaching experience, not less than 2 years of which shall be teaching in a special education program
· Full or temporary approval by the State Board of Education as a Teacher of Students with Visual Impairments (SK)
· Approval as an Orientation and Mobility Specialist from the Academy for Certification of Vision Rehabilitation and Education Professionals (ACVREP) preferred
· Knowledge of Braille, Basic Orientation and Mobility, and Adaptive Technology skills
· Ability to develop compliant IEPs/IFSPs that support the needs of the student
· Ability to align instruction, materials and tasks with student levels of challenge
· Ability to analyze medical reporting to determine educational impact
JOB FUNCTIONS:
· Develop compliant Individualized Education Programs (IEPs) and Individualized Family Service Plans (IFSPs) that promote measurable growth
· Provide direct services as defined in student IEPs and IFSPs
· Plan, organize, and assign activities that are specific to each student’s abilities
· Collect relevant data related to student achievement and access to the general education curriculum
· Plan and conduct assessments to inform student programming or for progress monitoring purposes
· Utilize a data dialogue process that results in positive outcomes
· Consult with administrators, teachers, itinerant staff members, paraprofessionals or other educational staff to support the implementation of student IEPs and IFSPs
· Regularly create, review and modify intervention plans
· Attend student level planning meetings and IEP/IFSP team meetings
· Create written reports to detail results of consultative services, to inform evaluation team processes and to contribute to the development to of student IEPs and IFSPs
· Submit all required reporting requirements for the purpose of progress monitoring and Medicaid billing
· Effectively communicate student progress, in oral and written formats, with school, parent and agency partners
· Utilize Adaptive Schools concepts and strategies to engage students and adults
· Other responsibilities as assigned at the direction of the Supervisor
