JOB FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Provide services to blind or visually impaired older Adults age 55+.
- Maintain a caseload of all those seeking services.
- Conduct initial and on-going assessment of consumers.
- Assess consumers’ functioning in areas such as vision, orientation and mobility skills, social and emotional issues, cognition, physical abilities, and personal goals.
- Identify and discuss communication goals and objectives with visually impaired consumers.
- Provide instruction to individuals in the use of assistive technology on PC/Mac and mobile devices, including JAWS, NVDA, ZoomText, Talkback, VoiceOver, and other built-in accessibility features/software. This includes cellphones, tablets, and other high technology devices such as tactile maps, electronic travel aids and GPS devices.
- Provide training in the Central Office, remotely, at consumers’ homes, or other community locations as appropriate;
- Write reports and complete forms to document assessments, training, progress, goals, and follow-up outcomes.
- Conduct in-person and technology-based presentations to promote awareness, outreach, intake and in-service training.
- Other Duties as assigned.
EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE:
· Bachelor’s degree in computer-related field or experience in use of PC systems and adaptive technology used by people with visual disabilities is required.
· ACVREP Certification required (must be obtained within 90 days of hire, or completion of internship); certification must be kept active and in good standing
· Minimum of one year experience working with blind and visually impaired individuals.
· Knowledge of eye diseases
SKILLS/ABILITIES:
· Excellent verbal and written communication skills, including ability to work and communicate with professionals, agency staff, and Older Adult consumers that have a visual impairment and/or other disabilities.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: Must be able to lift up to 15 lbs
