Responsibilities:

  • Evaluate client's current function and determine their needs and desired outcomes.
  • Completes standardized assessments during evaluation process.
  • Evaluate patients' needs in the home, community, and workplace to identify potential improvements.
  • Instruct clients on increasing independence with Activities of Daily Living (ADLs) and Instrumental Activities of Daily Living (IADLs) using blindness and low vision techniques.
  • Ability to commute to client’s homes/community in their own vehicle.
  • Educate patients' families and employers about necessary accommodation and care.
  • Recommend and refer patients to additional services such as Low Vision clinic, orientation and mobility training, and access technology.
  • Assess and record patients' activities and progress for evaluations, treatment, discharge, billing, and communication with physicians/healthcare providers in current agency software.
  • Introduce and train clients on adaptive equipment, compensatory strategies and environmental modifications to enhance independence in daily tasks.
  • Role-play scenarios to identify patients' abilities and limitations, discuss outcomes and initiate a plan of care.
  • Prepare written correspondence documenting the progression and final skill levels of patients.
  • Participate in meetings with patients, family members, and other support staff.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

 Job Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree required; Master's degree preferred.
  • Current PA Occupational Therapy (OT) license required.
  • Certified Vision Rehabilitation Therapist (CVRT) or Certified Low Vision Therapist (CLVT) preferred.
  • Valid driver license
  • Experience working with individuals who have vision loss preferred.

 Decision-Making Authority/Supervisory Responsibility:

  • Primary responsibility for decision-making regarding clients’ training programs.
  • Supervises Occupational Therapy students when applicable.

 Working Environment/Physical Demands: 

 Working Environment: 

  •  General office environment: air-conditioned office, with moderate noise levels.   

Physical Demands: 

  • Capability to lift and carry equipment and materials up to 25 Pounds without assistance
  • Ability to travel to different locations as required for client training sessions.
  • Ability to anticipate and mitigate hazards to ensure client safety.
  • Ability to speak professionally on the phone with various stakeholders 
  • Ability to utilize a visually based database

  • Ability to evaluate information and the implications of a course of action or solution
  • Ability to interpret and apply common sense understanding to carry out a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form
  • Ability to follow and execute directives from leadership
  • Ability to solve problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists.
  • Define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions.
  • Evaluate trends in data or information.
  • Ability to read, analyze, and interpret both internal and external documents
