Blind and Vision Rehabilitation Services

Responsibilities:

  • Conduct assessments to determine clients' rehabilitation needs and develop individualized training plans.
  • Teach clients essential skills for daily living, including personal management, home management, and communication skills.
  • Provide instruction in adaptive equipment and technologies designed for individuals with vision impairments.
  • Must be able to work with clients in their homes, community and facility.
  • Will be able to commute to client’s homes/community in their own vehicle.
  • Educate clients on methods for managing their homes and personal finances.
  • Offer guidance and support in vocational and recreational activities to enhance clients' quality of life.
  • Collaborate with other professionals, such as the low vision doctor, occupational therapists, orientation and mobility specialists, and assistive technology instructors, to ensure a comprehensive approach to rehabilitation.
  • Must be able to document clients' progress and adjust training plans as necessary.
  • Stay current with developments in rehabilitation techniques and adaptive technologies through ongoing professional development.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the Director of Rehabilitation.

 

Job Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Rehabilitation Teaching, Vision Rehabilitation, or a related field.
  • Certification as a Vision Rehabilitation Therapist (CVRT) or eligibility for certification.
  • Experience working with individuals who are blind or visually impaired is highly desirable.
  • Strong instructional and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to develop and implement effective training plans.
  • Proficiency with adaptive equipment and technologies for vision impairments.
  • Valid driver’s license and willingness to travel to clients' homes or community settings.

 

Decision-Making Authority/Supervisory Responsibility:

  • Reports directly to the Director of Rehab.
  • Holds decision-making authority regarding clients’ rehabilitation plans.

Requirements:

  • A reliable form of transportation or a valid Driver’s License
  • Clearances Required/Need to Obtain:
  • Act 151 (Child Abuse History Clearance)
  • Act 34 (Pennsylvania Access to Criminal History Clearance)
  • Act 114 (Federal Criminal History Record Clearance

Working Environment/Physical Demands: 

Working Environment: 

  • General office environment: air-conditioned office, with moderate noise levels.   

Physical Demands:

  • Ability to perform tasks that involve physical activity, such as demonstrating adaptive techniques and navigating various environments.
  • Responsibility to lift and /or carrying adaptive equipment and training materials up to 25 Pounds without assistance,
  • Ability to travel to different locations as required for client training sessions.
  • Ability to speak professionally on the phone with various stakeholders 
  • Ability to utilize a visually based database

  • Ability to evaluate information and the implications of a course of action or solution
  • Ability to interpret and apply common sense understanding to carry out a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form
  • Ability to follow and execute directives from leadership
  • Ability to solve problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists.
  • Define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions.
  • Evaluate trends in data or information.
  • Ability to read, analyze, and interpret both internal and external documents
