HKNC is dedicated to working with each person to achieve their desired goals towards independence, employment, and quality of life, based on their talents, preferences and aspirations. We currently have an exciting full time career opportunity available to join the HKNC team as the Regional Services Coordinator in our North Central Region.  The Regional Services Coordinator oversees services in our North Central Region which includes Illinois, Indiana, Michigan, Minnesota, Ohio, and Wisconsin. 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Provide technical assistance and consultation with vocational rehabilitation and services for the blind & visually impaired, state and community partners to improve the quality of local and statewide services.  Contributes to the HKNC strategic planning and implementation process with information and data from state interagency teams.

  • Collaborate with consumers, VR and services for the blind, state DeafBlind projects, and community partners to identify DeafBlind youth and adults for inclusion in the HKNC National Registry
  • Facilitate the application process for individuals to HKNC for virtual and/or on-site assessment and/or training and facilitate coordination of transition back to their community of choice
  • Provide information, advocacy, and referral to local services for individuals and their families 
  • Coordinate and/or provide professional development training/resources to increase the number of qualified service providers 
  • Offer and provide business relations and consultation services for employers to hire and retain qualified employees, develop employee retention strategies, and learn about work-site related accommodations 
  • Work with HKNC and community-based teams to support consumers with achieving their quality of life and employment goals
  • Assist with National DeafBlind Equipment Distribution Program (NDBEDP) capacity building within the region
  • Support the development and provision of employment training services to VR consumers in the region through the services of the DeafBlind specialists and CA CSP team
  • Manage state contracts and reporting responsibilities;
  • Provide consultation, support, and training to/on behalf of individuals age 55 and service providers in collaboration with HKNC Older Adult Specialist;
  • Provide consultation, support, and training to/on behalf of transition-age young adults in collaboration with their families and community partners
  • Oversee state community rehabilitation program (CRP)/vendor contracts with HKNC, liaison with the state vocational rehabilitation/blind services agencies
  • Develop and standardize procedures and methods to improve and continuously monitor the efficiency and effectiveness of DeafBlind specialists and youth services coordinator
  • Develop and implement employment and youth services goals, objectives, policies, and priorities for DeafBlind specialists and youth services coordinator
  • Supervise DeafBlind specialists and youth services coordinator's reporting of outcomes into HKNC's database, FileMaker Pro, and create accurate quarterly and annual reports; 
  • Responsible for other duties as may be assigned or requested by his/her immediate supervisor, Executive Director and/or the HKS President & CEO.

This position requires some significant travel throughout Region 5 states and to HKNC headquarters (Sands Point, NY) as necessary.

 Oversees and monitors Illinois SSP grant objectives and pilot program planning.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE 

  • Master’s Degree preferred in Rehabilitation Counseling or a closely related degree. Preference given to an individual with four or more years full-time vocational rehabilitation work experience with individuals who are DeafBlind.
  • At least 2-3 years of supervisory work experience preferred
  • Understanding of Deaf and DeafBlind culture and the impact of a combined hearing and vision loss preferred
  • American Sign Language fluency preferred
  • Knowledge of effective record keeping and report writing
  • Knowledge of computer hardware and software programs (MS office, MS Teams, Adobe, Zoom)
  • Knowledge of Network Drive, and FMP, KLAS databases.
