Vision Rehabilitation Therapist (13021) - (23143395) 

 

The Montana Department of Public Health and Human Services (DPHHS) has a career opportunity within the Disability Employment and Transitions Division.

 

 

 

Do you love working with people and have a passion for helping those with disabilities? This position is responsible for assessing the needs of individuals with blindness or low vision to determine the services, equipment and training necessary for independent living and employment.  Responsibilities include completing an assessment of the individual’s low vision needs, environmental adaptations, and ergonomic needs; Developing plans for instruction in adaptive skills for independent living and employment;  Providing training to the consumer both at the job site and home environment; and managing an Older Blind caseload including taking applications, determining eligibility, developing plans for service, and evaluation of services provided and case closure.

Qualifications for this Career Opportunity

  • Knowledge of human behavior, physical/psychological aspects of disability and have specific knowledge of the functions of the eye and conditions that lead to vision loss and/or blindness.
  • Knowledge of visual rehabilitation therapy techniques.
  • Knowledge of assistive technology used by individuals who are visually impaired or blind.
  • Ability to teach adults.
  • Ability to accurately interpret medical and psychological information.
  • Ability to maintain effective working relationships with team members, consumers, agencies, and the public.
  • Ability to manage budgets, caseload, and good work organization.

 

Meet minimum qualifications:

  • Fully qualified applicants possess:
    • Master’s degree in Vision Rehabilitation Therapy.
    • Six months of job-related experience working with individuals with blindness or low vision.
  • Individuals may be considered for a training assignment if they possess:
    • Bachelor’s degree in a related field
    • Other combinations of directly related education and experience may be considered.

Additional Information

This position may be eligible for partial telework within the state of Montana. Specific conditions will be provided by the supervisor and must adhere to state policy.

 

This position may be eligible for a statutory $1.50 an hour base pay increase effective July 1, 2024.

 

 

This position is open until filled with frequent screening of applicants.

Employees in training assignments may be paid below the base pay established by the agency pay rules. Conditions of the training assignment will be stated in writing at the time of hire.  

Salary: $

 25.05 - 27.55  Hourly Telework Eligibility:  Telework Eligible (Full-time telework is not available. Telework schedule must be supervisor approved.) Benefits Package Eligibility:  Health Insurance, Paid Leave & Holidays, Retirement Plan
