ACVREP's Recertification Frequent Asked Questions

Q: When do I have to recertify?
Answer: You have to recertify every 5 years. The online submission of the application for Recertification is due by 11:59 PM Eastern time on the 1st day of the month in which your certification expires, for example March 1 for a March 31 expiry. Any application received later than this time will be assessed a Late Fee in the amount identified on the fee schedule.

Q: How do I recertify?
Answer: You can choose to recertify via points or by retaking the certification exam which pertains to your certification.

If you choose to recertify via points, you are required to have a total of 100 points. 25 of those points must be in Continuing Education. You will not be certified if you do not meet the mandatory minimum of 25 points in Category 1, Continuing Education. You may then acquire points in either Category 2, Professional Experience, Category 3, Publications and Presentations, or Category 4, Profession Services. You may also choose to recertify by having the required 100 points in Continuing Education.

If you choose to recertify via exam, you will pay the discounted exam fee of $300.00. You will indicate on the Application for Recertification that you would like to recertify by taking the exam. Follow the online application process and pay the fee. You will be contacted within 5-7 business days to confirm your exam date, time and location.
