Optimized task lighting can be a simple, effective way to improve comfort and acuity for adults and children with low vision. This course presents the scientific concepts behind lighting and light sources, which practitioners want in order to provide well-grounded recommendations. Important properties and measures of both lighting and color are described and demonstrated. Methods to assess lighting needs and factors to control in an assessment of near vision performance are discussed. Commonly available light sources are described, including their individual advantages, ergonometric aspects and cost considerations. Finally, calibrated methods to measure and recommend practical task lighting are discussed. |
