This annual conference for the Southwest Orientation and Mobility Association (SWOMA) focuses exclusively on training for orientation and mobility specialists and university students studying to become orientation and mobility specialists.The pre-conference begins at 1 PM on Thursday, November 13th and includes sessions on creating tactile maps using low and high tech methods and using various map apps for mobile devices. Participants will cycle through each session in the course of the afternoon.The main conference begins on Friday morning and continues through Saturdays working luncheon. General sessions and a variety of breakout sessions cover a wide topic range including: working with infants and toddlers, how to teach non-visual concepts, strategies and support for blind parents traveling with children, and collaboration with audiologists for individuals with combined vision and hearing impairment. The conference addresses orientation and mobility instruction for individuals of all ages from birth into elder years with a range of disabilities in addition to vision loss. |
