iPad and Assistive Technology InstituteDates: July 8, 9, 10, 2014 and October 17, 18, 2014 (5 Days)Presenters: Therese Willkomm, Ph.D., Director of New Hampshire's State Assistive Technology Program, and Nicole Feeney, M.Ed., Assistive Technology Specialist Hosted By: Perkins Training Center Workshop Descriptions: Therese Willkomm's Sessions - July 8, 9, 10, 2014Pre-workshop activity: iPad 101Day 1: iPad Accessibility: Awesome Apps, Adaptations, and Accessories-While the iPad is being promoted as a Universal Design for Learning tool, many individuals who experience vision impairments and multiple disabilities need additional adaptations to achieve maximal use of this tool. In addition, there are hundreds of apps and accessories that can benefit individuals who experience blindness, low vision or multiple disabilities. Hold on to your hat!Day 2: Assistive Technology Made in Minutes: Ordinary Items, Extraordinary Solutions. We continue to be challenged with limited time and money to solve everyday problems. This amazing hands-on interactive workshop will explore over 40 everyday tools, materials and techniques for creating hundreds of solutions in five minutes or less and for $5 or less.Day 3: Make and Take: Creating 10 Different Assistive Technology solutions. During this hands-on make and take workshop, each participant will fabricate a non-conductive mitt; an iPad stand; a homemade stylus; a tactile graphic overlay; a document holder/book holder and a scanner box for an iPhone. In addition, participants will learn creative uses for Loc-Line, Formular, Corrugated Plastic, UGlu, Loc-Lift RG, and much more. Note: This workshop involves using sharp tools.
