In consideration of House Bill 590, it is imperative for Certified Orientation & Mobility Specialists (COMS) to provide comprehensive orientation and mobility (O&M) evaluations to a diverse population of students with visual impairments (VI). Come and improve your skills in conducting O&M evaluations for students with VI (birth age 21), including those with additional impairments or deafblindness. Join us for an interactive day of learning to evaluate for basic understanding of spatial concepts and body image, posture, gait, protective techniques, communication skills essential for traveling, readiness for canes, and the needs for assistive technology. Templates for O&M evaluations will be shared, along with tips on working as collaborative teams in order to yield quality evaluations. |
