Kitty Edstrand is currently the Innovation, Development, and Research Coordinator and co-lead of Statewide Training for the New Mexico School for the Blind and Visually Impaired; she also teaches O&M courses for the NMSU O&M licensure program. Previously, she taught preschool at NMSBVI and has been working as a TSVI or O&M in the visual impairment field for almost 20 years, primarily working with young children with visual impairments. She received her doctorate from FSU as an NLCSD fellow in 2016. She has presented locally, nationally, and internationally on CVI, focusing on provider understanding of CVI and reflective practice. Other instructional and research interests have focused on pretend play, the LMA process, instructional strategies and ECC in early childhood, and O&M. Each session will be 90 minutes; attendance will be taken through zoom recording, noting start/end time of attendee. Agenda: Participants will learn the current status of CVI terminology and diagnosis and become familiar with the main visual processing centers of the brain and how they may impact functional vision Participants will identify the impact of sensory regulation, visual attention, and visual recognition CVI manifestations on O&M and list strategies for instruction and assessment. Participants will identify at least 3 reflective practice questions related to these manifestation areas they can use for students with CVI |
