Description of CE Program/Activity
Amidst a rising tide of anti-LGBTQ+ bias, it is more important than ever that everyone is educated in how to best support and serve the LGBTQ+ youth of our communities. Learn about factors that influence LGBTQ+ well-being, including protective childhood experiences (PCEs) that influence resilience among youth. Well address appropriate and intentional language use, and best practices for engaging LGBTQ+ youth and navigate working with their families. Special attention will be paid to the intersectional identities of POC and disabled people that are also queer and trans. There will also be a chance to get your questions answered and learn about where to look for additional information and resources. Following this training the participants will:Recognize the importance of identity and the language that individuals use to describe themselves and increase confidence in being intentional about language.Recognizing how the impacts of multiple marginalized identities such as sexual orientation, gender expression, racial identity and disability can impact youth and their wellness outcomes.Learn how to address mistakes and engage in repair work when mistakes happen.Understand the importance of building community and where to go to find it, including resources for families to build their own resilience and become more welcoming.
