Description of CE Program/Activity
Suicide Prevention Presented by: Jillian Gecewicz, LCSWThe training will focus on increasing suicide awareness by helping participants understand suicide, recognize who it affects, and identify the factors that contribute to suicide risk. Participants will learn that suicide is preventable through timely intervention and effective support. The curriculum will also address common misconceptions, including the belief that punishment is an effective means of preventing suicide, while emphasizing the importance of building supportive relationships and implementing evidence-informed prevention strategies. In addition, participants will explore the reasons providers may feel reluctant to work with individuals at risk of suicide and develop practical skills for responding when someone expresses thoughts of suicide. The training will also highlight New York State suicide prevention resources and guide participants in developing a safety plan with an individual who may be at risk.Presenter: Jillian Gecewicz, LCSW
