Description of CE Program/Activity
Program Overview This professional development program prepares Teachers of the Visually Impaired to teach screen reader use and basic internet navigation effectively. Rather than treating screen reader instruction as memorization of keyboard shortcuts, the program frames it as a concept-based, multi-year process, drawing on the familiar learning curves of orientation and mobility and braille literacy. Participants move from foundational concepts and vocabulary, through the core methods of screen reader navigation, to building and presenting real-world navigation sequences they can take directly into their own instruction. Sessions combine interactive lecture, live demonstration with a running screen reader, and guided hands-on practice on the Eye.t Learning Portal, a purpose-built accessible platform that delivers content and key commands in the learner's chosen screen reader (JAWS, NVDA, or ChromeVox).
