Description/Outline of Training: The goal of this training is to equip DVR staff - including instructors, counselors, and supervisors - to effectively serve clients experiencing the dual impact of Acquired Brain Injury (ABI) and vision loss. Participants will learn to shift from traditional visual instruction to cognitive-first strategies, reframing the brain's processing as the primary barrier to learning. The training covers how to translate abstract concepts into concrete prompts, manage neuro-fatigue, maximize weekly sessions, and how to involve caregivers and community supports.Trainer Bio (not required but recommended): Russha Knauer, Director & Heather Kamper, Program ManagerLearning Objectives: Participants will explain how to conceptualize Acquired Brain Injury as the primary learning barrier over vision loss. Participants will learn how to identify behavioral cues of neuro-fatigue and apply strategies to properly pace instructional sessions. Participants will explore strategies to leverage support networks and caregiver involvement to reinforce skill development and improve carryover between sessions. Participants will learn how to administer and interpret the Online Brain Injury Screening and Support System (OBISSS) at intake to understand a client's specific learning needs and history. |
