The course will provide an overview of the various lived experiences of students with combined hearing and vision loss will be provided. Various etiologies will be described to provide a broad understanding and the implications of multi-sensory loss on the learning process and availability for learning. Time will be dedicated to addressing the power of touch for learning and communicating, focusing on the aspects of the neuroscience of touch. Various tactile considerations for DeafBlind learners will be explored, including tactile sign language, haptics and protactile communication. Participants can anticipate hands-on learning and practicing. |
