Description of CE Program/Activity
Orientation and Mobility plays a direct role in the success of a participant in their education and employment. Attendees will learn how to evaluate the current travel skills and abilities of a participant and identify training needs. A look into orientation and mobility instruction for educational settings, employment, and BEP will be explored. Attendees will identify "red flags" and "green flags" in relation to reported travel skills and abilities from participants. They will learn about independent travel skills required for participants to reach their specific goals and how to identify training needs in a participant's vocational program. Madison Nizolek is a Certified Orientation and Mobility Specialist (COMS) and Certified Vision Rehabilitation Therapist (CVRT). She has worked in the Albany District Office of NYSCB as Mobility Instructor for over 6 years. Prior to her work at NYSCB, she worked at NABA as a COMS and CVRT and as an Employment Specialist.
