This two-day presentation will provide O&M specialists with an intensive, hands-on exploration of Structured Discovery Cane Travel (SDCT) methodology and its application with K 12 learners (Promotional Model). Participants will learn the historical and theoretical foundations of SDCT before moving into immersive experiential learning that includes open palm cane technique, tap slide, grip transitions, and nonvisual orientation strategies such as echolocation. Through structured indoor and outdoor travel sessions, instructors will learn strategies to encourage problem solving, intrinsic feedback, and self-efficacy while using Socratic questioning techniques. Open forum discussions after each activity emphasize reflective practice and the transferability of skills, ensuring instructors leave with strengthened pedagogical strategies and a clearer understanding of how SDCT supports independence and confidence in K 12 students |
