Presenters:Nora Griffin-Shirley, PhDNora Griffin-Shirley, PhD, a professor in the Special Education Program at Texas Tech University, is the Director of The Virginia Murray Sowell Center for Research and Education in Visual Impairment, and the Coordinator of the Orientation and Mobility Program. Over the years, Dr. Griffin-Shirley has served as the co-principal investigator on grants, has published articles and books, made numerous presentations, and received awards.Laura Bozeman, PhDLaura Bozeman, PhD, is a Professor and Director of the Vision Studies program in the School for Global Inclusion and Social Development at UMass Boston. She is also Chair of the School. Dr. Bozeman has served as faculty at the University of Texas at Austin, NCCU, Massey University, Auckland, New Zealand, and UMass Boston. She has presented internationally, nationally, and regionally in personnel preparation, self-defense, collaborative partnerships, O&M for Older Adults, and Blind O&M instructors.The presentation will discuss the demographics and characteristics of older adults with vision loss. Challenges concerning the travel of this population will be discussed as well as what practitioners can do to ameliorate these challenges. Specifically, O&M instructional strategies will be presented.
