We ll wrap up the series by unlocking the power of writing as communication by showing how every student, no matter their challenges, can become a writer and communicator. This session will dig deeper into Sturm s Writing-To-Communicate framework, where communication serves as the anchor across spoken and written language. This session will target how to use the science-based writing instruction to provide learning contexts that optimize foundational writing and communication skills for students with complex learning needs. In this session, high-quality writing instruction, including writing strategies, research-based approaches, and individual accommodations, will be discussed. Educators will gain knowledge about ways in which they can support all students in both speaking and listening, and writing. Information from this session will support teachers in the preparation and initiation of science-based writing instruction. Classroom-based videos and student examples will be shared. Participants will see how assessment data, partnered with high-quality instruction, enables changes in mindset that written language is an important form of communication for ALL individuals. Educators will leave empowered to make writing a central mode of expression for every student. |
