We will kick off the instructional portion of the series with a framework for daily literacy instruction. This framework will be discussed in detail throughout the next four sessions. We will begin with a focus on instruction for phonemic awareness and phonics. We will demonstrate the use of assessment data to plan explicit, systematic, and daily phonemic awareness and phonics instruction. We will share teaching activities that align with science and point out common teaching practices that are not scientifically based and should be discontinued. Strategies for instruction that consider common challenges of individuals who use AAC, such as trouble learning vowels, will be addressed. Educators will see how explicit, daily instruction can be made accessible to all learners. |
