There are many challenges with assessing phonemic awareness and phonics with students with Complex Learning Needs (CLN), given potential difficulties with speech intelligibility and language. In session two, we will do a deep dive into phonemic awareness and begin our discussion of phonics assessment. We will review the critical components of phonemic awareness and phonics and demonstrate how to develop tools for the assessment of students with CLN before, during, and after instruction. Educators will leave with practical strategies to unlock early literacy for students with CLN. |
