Description of CE Program/Activity
The Northern Rockies AER Conference offers an invaluable opportunity for professionals, families, and advocates to deepen their knowledge and expand their skills in the field of visual impairments and DeafBlindness. This year s sessions cover a wide range of essential topics, from understanding cortical visual impairment (CVI) and tactile language development to exploring considerations unique to individuals who are DeafBlind.Participants will engage in practical workshops and discussions on orientation and mobility, cane tips, and innovative mobility supports such as the Belt Cane/Safe Toddles. Technology integration will also be a focus, with sessions on tactile graphics, functional hearing, and AI tools that can enhance teaching and learning in the VI classroom.Beyond tools and techniques, the conference will address the holistic needs of students. Topics such as empowering learners, navigating behavioral concerns unique to children with DeafBlindness, understanding the trauma of vision loss, and promoting independence through kitchen strategies and life hacks will provide practical strategies for educators, caretakers, and families.Wellness and professional growth are also prioritized, with sessions such as yoga in the VI classroom designed specifically for Teachers of the Visually Impaired, as well as training tailored to Orientation and Mobility Specialists and Vision Rehabilitation Therapists.By attending, participants will gain not only research-based strategies but also real-world tools and inspiration to better serve individuals with vision loss and DeafBlindness, helping them thrive in both educational and everyday environments.
