Join Kristen and Gwyn for ideas on how to maximize collaboration between TVIs and O&Ms. We will share lesson ideas and experiences based on student O&M goals and thematic content. Participants will have the opportunity to collaborate on ideas and maximize their students access to literacy through engaging O&M lessons. This presentation shares and discusses ways literacy can be incorporated into O&M lessons. Incorporating literacy into O&M lessons allows the student to naturally experience literacy throughout their environment outside of the classroom setting. Teachers of the Visually Impaired and Orientation Mobility Specialists can join efforts to reinforce current literacy skills through O&M lessons. From simple letter identification to more complex reading skills such as reading signs, tactile maps, and information in their environments, students have more opportunities to access literacy through multi-modality experiences. |
