This session will introduce attendees to Glide, a groundbreaking personal mobility devicedeveloped by Glidance, designed to support individuals who are blind or have low vision.Unlike traditional aids such as the cane or guide dog, Glide combines robotics and AI in auser-guided, physically connected device that enables real-time navigation and buildsconfidence and independence. The session will focus on how Glide impacts the Orientation & Mobility (O&M) field, particularly for individuals who have lost their sight later in life and cannot access, afford,or successfully complete training with a cane or guide dog. We ll also explore how Glide isperceived by users and the public, and discuss whether and how it may eventuallysymbolize blindness in a similar way to the white cane. The presentation will include live product demonstrations, user feedback highlights, and afacilitated discussion around Glide s role within O&M education and rehabilitationprograms. |
