Empowering Independence through Vision Rehabilitation: The Impact of a Comprehensive Care Model for Individuals with Visual Impairments - This course explores the transformative impact of a comprehensive care model in vision rehabilitation for individuals with visual impairments. By integrating essential components of vision rehabilitation such as occupational therapy, orientation and mobility, assistive technology, and optometric low vision evaluations, this multi-disciplinary approach allows individuals to navigate daily challenges and enhance their independence. Several case studies representing this model will be presented. Instruction Level: Intermediate Prerequisites: None. Learning Objectives: 1. Examine the key components and practice roles of a multi-disciplinary vision rehabilitation model: O&M, OT, AT, ILST, and optometric low vision evaluations. 2. Analyze the possible synergy between disciplines in improving patient outcomes. 3. Describe how personalized rehabilitation strategies are developed based on each patient s specific needs, vision status, and functional goals. 4. Review long-term outcomes for patients including increased independence, mental well-being, and community integration. 5. Identify and discuss challenges and barriers in vision rehabilitation. |
