Description of CE Program/Activity
Application of Virtual Reality and Augmented Reality Technology in Low Vision Rehabilitation - Virtual Reality (VR) can be used to assess real-world visual performance in people with low vision, offering a more realistic way to measure visual parameters than clinical settings. Augmented Reality (AR) can analyze functional vision during daily activities and improve visual functions like acuity and contrast sensitivity. It can also enhance tasks like reading, writing, and identifying objects. This presentation will discuss VR and AR applications in low vision rehabilitation. Instruction Level: Intermediate; Prerequisites: None. Learning Objectives: 1. Characterize the development of 3D virtual environments for assessment of visual parameters. 2. Differentiate the scoring methods of visual performance. 3. Interpret the use of VR scenarios for visual rehabilitation. 4. Characterize the functions of different models of augmented reality devices for performing daily living activities. 5. Analyze the change in visual functions while using AR devices. 6. Describe the perception of augmented reality devices by people with low vision.
