All people, regardless of their individual abilities, should be allowed to communicate their personal needs in an appropriate way, and expect a response. Communication is a basic skill allowing people to manage their lives and maintain their independence. Tactile symbols are tools for helping a learner acquire the skills of choice-making, organizing language, and increasing independence. This course is designed to provide teachers and other professionals with an overview of the design and application of Tactile Connections as a tool for building symbolic communication skills and literacy for learners with complex needs. |
