Description of CE Program/Activity
 This 2-hour lecture provides the required training for Pennsylvania license renewal for healthcare providers. The attendees will learn how to define child abuse, differentiate between acts and failure to act and the risk factors for child abuse. The description of a perpetrator, frequency and types of abuse will be discussed. The concept of childrens rights and red flags associated with child abuse will be defined. Medical child abuse will be defined and discussed. How General Protective Services are differentiated from Child Protective Services will be discussed. The Commonwealth of Pennsylvanias definition of a child will be explained. The terms mandated reporters and permissive reporters will be defined and their responsibilities outlined. A list of actions to avoid once a child discloses abuse will be presented. The concepts of privileged communications, exemption and substantiation will be defined and discussed. Lastly, case examples of management and prevention strategies will be presented.
