INTRODUCTION:The purpose of this training is to provide hands-on experience with low vision devices including optical aids (e.g., magnifiers, TV glasses, monoculars, etc.), non-optical aids (e.g., sunglasses, reading stands, writing guides, etc.), and digital magnifiers (e.g., portable and desktop). This training is designed specifically for outpatient blind rehab specialists who will be working in a Veteran s home and community environment. Participants will learn the basics of each device, how to evaluate for each device, templates to utilize for evaluation, and guidelines for training with each device. In addition, the proper protocol for National contract items, ordering, and dispensing will be covered in the training. Participants will have the opportunity to create an evaluation kit with handouts and tools to utilize during home visits. |
