Early identification of deaf-blindness results in early supports for children and their families. The session will address key strategies for identification of early onset hearing and vision loss, as well as broad impact of deaf-blindness for the developing child, and overarching support strategies.Concomitant vision and hearing loss is likely to impact all facets of development. Early identification helps to ensure:Ealy possible treatment of sensory loss conditions to mitigate loss and optimize sensory function.Appropriate intervention for developmental and/or academic challenges. Avoidance of misinterpreted knowledge and skills.Family needs, child-access and communication needs are identified and supported through family-centered and deaf-blind specific strategies and specialized equipment. |
