Description of CE Program/Activity
Unilateral Visual Neglect (UVN): Beyond Buzzwords; an Evidence-Informed Approach to Screening, Evaluation, and Intervention. - Symptoms of Unilateral Visual Neglect (UVN) are common following acquired brain injury. While reports of prevalence are wide-ranging, current statistics are sobering. The real-world impact on outcomes is evident; however, a clear, comprehensive, and evidence-based approach can be elusive. Beyond look to the left, this session will demystify UVN and take participants beyond traditional paper-pencil tests and remedial tasks, to a deeper understanding of neglect as a multi-faceted condition, requiring an integrated and evidence-informed approach to screening, evaluation, and intervention to improve outcomes for our clients following an acquired brain injury.Learning Objectives: 1. Demonstrate an understanding of the demographics, and real-world impact(s) of unilateral visual neglect on client outcomes. 2. Identify relevant neuro-anatomy (structures and concepts) related to unilateral visual neglect. 3. Moving beyond paper-pencil screening measures, participants will be able to identify 8 currently-available tools used in screening &/or assessment of unilateral visual neglect. 4. Moving beyond look to the left, participants will be able to identify 8 evidence-based intervention options to address symptoms of unilateral visual neglect in post-stroke neuro-visual rehabilitation.
