Description: Individuals who are DeafBlind are at a greater risk to experience mental health crises as a result of isolation and significant barriers to mental health services. Join us for a dynamic and informative session designed to help break down those barriers and increase quality and accessibility of mental health services for individuals who are DeafBlind. Professionals will have a chance to learn about the beauty and complexities of the DeafBlind population and how to better serve them. Learning Objectives: List and describe 4 different types of combined vision and hearing loss present in the DeafBlind community List and describe three categories of DeafBlind etiologies Identify at least three strategies and/or tools that your DeafBlind client may require to access paperwork. List and describe four types of communication methods Identify accommodations that may be needed to access the person s communication method Identify strategies to establish a productive and trusting relationship with a client who is DeafBlind List the challenges that a DeafBlind individual may experience with their family system List at least three possible barriers a DeafBlind person may experience with accessing mental health services List 5 types of assistive listening devices that an aural/oral DeafBlind person may use to effectively engage in mental health services List four life experiences that are impacted by a person s dual sensory loss that may cause frustration, distress, and/or depression |
