This presentation will dive deep into OSEP Memo 17-05 on Eligibility Determinations for Children Suspected of Having a Visual Impairment Including Blindness under the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act. Participants will compare and contrast requirements for educational visual impairment with their current system practice. Finally, participants will determine the next steps to ensure their programs align with IDEA.Participants will be able to:describe IDEA definition of a visual impairmentexplain why a two-step process, such as screenings to determine the need for an FVA, is not allowed describe why visual acuities, visual fields, and visual diagnosis can not be used to deny a referral for an FVA.Explain whether eye reports can be used as a requirement in the FVA process |
