Description of CE Program/Activity
Description:When one thinks about tools that are traditionally used during O&M training, the white cane or dog guide are the most common. These tools, combined with the training to properly use them, offer the visually impaired traveler the ability to navigate their environment safely and efficiently. Further enhanced by tools such as navigation aids, the blind traveler can obtain more information about their surroundings than solely using traditional methods. This session will discuss the advantages the newly launched StellarTrek can provide for the visually impaired traveler. The StellarTrek improves the travelers understanding of the environment through reading text via optical character recognition, through artificial intelligence in detecting doors and address numbers, and through the capability to virtually explore routes before following them in real-time. Objectives:Outline at least two ways StellarTrek users can use OCR to identify text on multiple objects in their environmentIdentify two ways to follow a route virtually in pedestrian and vehicular modesIdentify two ways the StellarTrek uses artificial intelligence for environmental navigation through door detection and address confirmation
